ARCHIVED - Bathers evacuated from sea in Orihuela over possible sighting of two blue sharks
Cala Capitan beach coastline in the Vega Baja is being combed but there has been no official confirmation as yet
Stunned bathers at Cala Capitan beach were evacuated from the sea in Orihuela Costa this afternoon (Friday, August 20) over the possible sighting of two blue sharks.
The municipality's Rescue and Lifeguard service, Ambumar, quickly got out everyone out of the sea as a safety precaution, and together with Local Police, are scouring the coastline on jet skis to try to establish whether the sightings were actually sharks.
There have been numerous reports of sharks off Alicante coastline this week, with a blue shark sighted on Friday, August 13, in Benidorm, before a carcass of the same species was discovered dead on Saturday morning near Cala Mig in El Campello.
And on Saturday, August 14, the Guardia Civil's maritime service recovered the body of a dead dolphin discovered floating off the coast between the beaches of La Marina-Elche, about two nautical miles out to sea.
