August 12 See the eclipse of the sun at the observatory in Puerto Lumbreras
A truly unforgettable experience at the mountain observatory of Cabezo de la Jara!
There are moments when the sky stops being background decoration and becomes the main event, and 12th August 2026 is one of those moments.
On that evening the Sun will be partially, or for the lucky few, totally, eclipsed by the Moon. Daylight will dim. Shadows will sharpen. The temperature will drop. Birds will go quiet. And for a few surreal minutes, the universe will remind us who's really in charge! This occurs because the Moon passes directly between Earth and the Sun, blocking some, or all, of its light.
Watching the eclipse, an experience which you will remember for the rest of your life, is not an adventure to be undertaken lightly, as proper eye protection is essential, and at the
astronomical observatory of Cabezo de la Jara a few kilometres from Puerto Lumbreras a special evening is being hosted to enable you to get the best views in complete safety. Properly certified glasses are provided and the event is expected to be extremely popular, so book as soon as possible: either by telephone on (968 436153 or 652 902268) or via email at oficinadeturismo@puertolumbreras.es.
The evening begins at 19.00 and the price is just 2 euros per person, but availability is limited to just 100!
