Suspected gang members were arrested in provinces across Spain, including Alicante on the Costa Blanca.
The Guardia Civil in Alicante has shut down a criminal organisation which specialised in stealing high-end cars to use in ram raids at top-end jewellers and other retail stores.
Eleven men and three women, all Spanish and aged between 20 and 43, have been charged with a total of 40 crimes including burglary and robbery, membership of a criminal group, theft of motor vehicles, illegal possession of weapons, counterfeiting and money laundering.
They appeared before a court in Torrevieja in the Vega Baja comarca of Alicante and 11 of the defendants were remanded into custody and the remaining suspects released on conditional bail.
The ram raids and other crimes were carried out in Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid and Tarragona, and once investigators established a link, 11 simultaneous searches and arrests were carried out on May 2 as part of a joint operation between the Guardia Civil in Alicante and Barcelona police (Mossos d'Esquadra).
During the searches, an array of firearms and other weapons was seized, along with drugs, keys for a range of stolen high-end vehicles, €140,000 cash and almost €30,000 in perfectly packaged counterfeit banknotes.
