ARCHIVED - UK drug-trafficking fugitive sentenced to life in prison captured in Tenerife
The Scottish drug dealer fled to Spain earlier this year after he was convicted of heroin and cocaine smuggling
The National Police in Arona, situated in southern Tenerife, have arrested a fugitive wanted for drug trafficking convictions and sentenced to life in prison in the UK. According to official sources, the British National Crime Agency contacted the Spanish authorities back in April and alerted police to the fact that the criminal was likely hiding out in Spain.
The suspect fled the UK earlier this year after being handed a life sentence for being the leader of a criminal organisation based in Scotland. The drug cartel specialised in preparing and storing large shipments of cocaine and heroin for distribution throughout the country.

National Police officers across Spain began a huge manhunt and followed several leads to Alicante, Malaga and Ibiza before the fugitive was eventually tracked down on the island of Tenerife.
At the beginning of the month, the Spanish authorities launched a fresh appeal asking for public collaboration in tracking down the two remaining fugitives from the top 10 ‘Most Wanted’ list, after the original appeal proved hugely successful in collaring eight highly dangerous criminals.
