UK travellers help drive 22% rise in Balearics autumn bookings
Demand for Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza remains strong into autumn, while Formentera promotes walking routes and local food
Bookings for the Balearic Islands have risen by 22% compared with the same point last autumn, according to industry indicators.
The islands now account for about 22% of all tourist bookings managed across Spain. Demand from traditional markets, including the UK and Germany, is helping keep a substantial share of accommodation in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza open beyond the summer season.
Hotel and complementary service businesses are expanding staff to meet the demand. Industry sources cited by Crónica Balear say the extended season is also helping to stabilise direct employment in the Balearic services sector.
Occupancy in indoor accommodation remains satisfactory, despite some weekly variation caused by the weather. Stays built around culture and gastronomy are helping to sustain average daily visitor spending.
Industry associations are assessing how the market is performing during this period. The figures point to a continuing shift away from a season concentrated almost entirely around the summer months.
Formentera’s autumn offer
Formentera is also looking to attract visitors outside the peak season. The island’s Consell has presented a promotion strategy focused on nature, heritage and local food during the autumn months.
The campaign highlights the island’s network of green routes through protected landscapes and along the Pitiusas coastline. The paths can be explored on foot or by bicycle and pass old defensive towers, traditional boatyards and historic lighthouses.
Food is another central part of the offer. Participating restaurants will serve themed menus based on Formentera’s traditional cuisine, with local ingredients such as dried fish and regional wines.
The Consell says the approach is intended to protect the island’s ecosystems while still generating commercial activity. By encouraging trips outside the busiest months, it hopes to reinforce Formentera’s position as an environmentally focused destination.
The wider message from the Balearics is that autumn is no longer simply a quiet period between seasons. With UK demand still strong and islands such as Formentera actively promoting walking, cycling and food-based breaks, the islands are working to keep visitors arriving well beyond summer.
