ARCHIVED - Tremors from 1.8 magnitude earthquake in Teulada felt in nearby Alicante towns
The quake is the fifth to hit the Marina Alta region of Alicante province this year
An earthquake measuring 1.8 on the Richter scale hit Teulada just before midnight on Sunday August 21.
The quake occurred at 11.53pm to the south of the municipality, with its epicentrue at a depth of four kilometres.
The low intensity of the earthquake meant the tremors went unnoticed by the vast majority of residents, although some people claim on social networks to have felt it, even in the neighbouring towns of Calpe and Benissa.
According to National Geographic Institute data, this is the fifth earthquake this year in the Marina Alta region. On March 8 there were two earthquakes separated by a few hours in El Verger and Els Poblets, on March 28 there was seismic movement in Calpe and on June 20, the earth shook again, this time with the epicentre in Gata de Gorgos.
In the province as a whole, so far in 2022 there have been 45 recorded earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 1.5 on the Richter scale.
