ARCHIVED - Stunning giant swan sculpture will spend the summer in Benidorm
The colourful 'Hung Galaxy' sculpture will remain in Marina Baixa, Alicante province, for "tourists to enjoy".
The 'Hung Galaxy', a colourful sculpture of two amorous swans by Taiwanese artist Hung-Yi, will spend an extra two months in Benidorm on the Costa Blanca so that "holidaymakers as well as residents" can enjoy the work of art.
The stunning giant creation was originally supposed to have pride of place outside the Town Hall in Plaza de SSMM Reyes de España until July, before being exhibited elsewhere in Spain.
But following an agreement with the artist, the sculpture will be moved to "one of the most popular tourist locations in Benidorm", Avenida Armada Española at Poniente beach, over the next few days, where it will remain until mid-September.
"It is a great privilege that Hung Yi has chosen to exhibit in a tourist destination such as ours, especially in such a difficult time worldwide due to the pandemic", said the local authority, delighted that "happiness and colour will be brought to all who visit Benidorm this summer."
Hung Yi is a 50-year-old sculptor whose work has been exhibited in numerous art museums and galleries worldwide.
In recent years, he has been prolific in producing urban art with works located in the streets of leading cities, including Valencia.
