ARCHIVED - Second shark scare in a week in Ibiza
A large blue shark was spotted in a popular tourist swimming spot off the coast of Spain
Yet another shark sighting has shocked beachgoers in Ibiza, after a two-metre-long big fish was spotted in the waters off Sa Caleta on Monday May 23. The shark was filmed by a local resident as it thrashed near the rocks at Cala des Moro, a popular spot for bathers in the party resort of San Antonio.
Somer Frankland shared the footage on a Facebook group, and suggested that the specimen was a reef shark that may have become ensnared in a fishing line. However, another user pointed out that reef sharks are not known to swim in Spanish waters and that it was most likely a blue shark, whose numbers are much greater off the Spanish coast.
Ms Frankland wrote: “There’s a shark swimming around in circles just out from Sa Caleta. Around two metres, looks like a harmless reef shark but its movement suggests it’s stuck on a fishing line. He’s just going around and around in the same circle.”

Concerned for the welfare of the Shark, the Ibiza resident watched its movements for around 40 minutes before it eventually swam back out to sea and out of sight.
“He’s moved out a little further now, so I don’t think he’s caught on a rope,” she posted later.
Last Monday, a large blue shark was filmed at Calo de Moro beach. It had suffered a gash to its head and appeared to be disorientated, but was carried safely back out to deeper waters by officials.
Earlier this month, panicked swimmers were ordered out of the water by lifeguards at Cala Mondrago beach in the south-east of the island when another large blue shark was spotted circling close to the shore.
