ARCHIVED - Search continues in Alicante for missing Belgian villager who disappeared a week ago
82-year-old Hugo Gerard Dewulf was last seen in Hondón de los Frailes, Alicante province on August 1
An eight-day search involving police, expats and Spanish villagers continues following the disappearance of an 82-year-old Belgian man last seen in Hondón de los Frailes at around 6pm on Monday August 1.
The local council organised a public search last Tuesday, August 2, and dozens of locals along with police scoured roadside verges, land and mountains in and around the village hoping to find the 5ft 3in octogenarian who has short grey hair and blue eyes. His family has re-appealed for help in locating Hugo.
The missing pensioner weighs around 70kg and was wearing beige shorts, a straw hat and sunglasses at the time of his disappearance. He was also using a black walking stick.
There have been reports the elderly gentleman was last seen at a local tobacconists, and dozens of people have been seen scouring fields and land in and around the village.
A family member also posted on Facebook appealing for information, explaining that Hugo normally drives a green and black mobility scooter and is often seen with his great-grandchild in a pushchair.
The same village is currently mourning the death of an Irish expat who choked whilst eating and died at his Hondon de los Frailes home at around 6pm on Monday August 8. The deceased and his family had recently moved to the area. As yet, there are no further details.
