ARCHIVED - Petrer restricts lorry access in the town centre
Petrer in Alicante province has restricted the movement of lorries over 12 metres in length to cut congestion and traffic problems
Large lorries over 12 metres long are no longer allowed to access and circulate around Petrer town centre following the introduction of new restrictions by the Department of Public Safety.
Signposts have been erected at the main accesses in the Calvario and La Foia neighbourhoods, restricting the circulation of larger goods vehicles which may have difficulties in moving through the narrow streets causing road traffic problems for other motorists and posing a potential risk to pedestrians.
"Lorries smaller than 12 metres in length, which are the ones that usually access commercial establishments to deliver goods, will not have any problem in continuing to do so," added the Town Hall.
Further signs stipulating the 30 km/h speed limit and outlining double traffic directions have also been installed in various streets in La Foia, Calle Pintor Joan Miró and the Salinas neighbourhood where, until now, there has been a lack of clear regulations.
In addition, a stretch of Calle Calvario that runs parallel to Paseo de la Explanada and connects with Calle Nueva and Calle San Bonifacio is now restricted to residents only.
