<span style='color:#780948'>ARCHIVED</span> - Pensioner drowns on Torrevieja beach

A 76-year-old man drowned at Playa del Cura beach in Torrevieja, Alicante on Wednesday May 18. At 11.15am, the emergency services were alerted that an unconscious man had been pulled out of the water from the sea.

Witnesses on the scene started to massage the man’s heart. On arrival, the SAMU medical team continued with resuscitation manoeuvres, but there was no response and the man had already died.

Several people die on Spain's beaches each year, many of them over 65 years old. Bathers are warned to only swim in areas where there are lifeguards and if the sea conditions are not too rough.
