ARCHIVED - Feb 17-19 Carnival and exhibitions in Javea
The coastal town in the Marina Alta region of Alicante province is also staging a children's parade and live music
Three days of exhibitions, carnival parades and live music are set to get underway in Javea from Friday February 17, with prizes of up to 200 euros for the best fancy dress.
The festivities kick off on a cultural note with two art exhibitions on display at Javea's municipal halls on Friday. The first, from 6.30pm, features a collection of ceramics titled 'Kairós' by Cristina Minguillón at Lamberts Art Centre.
At 7pm, sculptor Javier de Benito will unveil his exhibition 'De la idea al bronce' (From the idea to bronze) at the Casa del Cable. The artist created a sculpture that has pride of place on Orihuela's promenade next to the Grava.
The evening will continue with jazz music and a performance of Black Mantra led by double bassist Ales Cesarini in the Casa de Cultura from 8pm. Tickets cost 5 euros and can be purchased at entrades .ajxabia.com/
Carnival fever hits the town on Saturday with two parades, fancy dress contests and live music.
The epicentre of the party will be the Plaza de la Constitución where at 5.30pm there will be a children's Carnival parade and a performance by the Canta Canalla group.
At 11pm, there will an adult's Carnival parade and a performance by the Titanic orchestra in Plaza de the Constitution, followed by a disco. There will be individual prizes of 50 euros for best costume in both parades, 100 for the best couple and 200 for the group costume.
The weekend of festivities will draw to a close on Sunday with a 'swing festival' in Plaza de la Comare Maruja Varó courtesy of the Túmbate Jazz Trío, from 12 noon.
