ARCHIVED - Drunken Brit antics: Naked man wrapped in cling film and tied to lamppost in Benidorm, Spain
Images of Brits behaving badly in the popular holiday resort of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca have gone viral
As thousands of holidaymakers once again flock to Benidorm, the Costa Blanca's biggest tourist resort, footage of British drunken behaviour is once again surfacing with the antics of what's believed to be a stag-do party going viral on social networks.
Passersby at a crossroad in the coastal town were greeted with the bizarre, and for some offensive, spectacle of a naked young man wrapped around a lamppost in cling film in broad daylight.
Attached to the exposed holidaymaker is a sign that reads: "Kiss or slap €1".
The images, recorded by several members of the public have been shared online, including one Instagram user @benidorm.memeshit.
It's not clear whether the tourist was the victim of a joke or a daredevil challenge, but the most shared theory is that the young male was part of a Brit bachelor party holidaying in the resort.
Keen to play the down the unwelcome attention the drunken behaviour of tourists attracts that threatens to sully the resort's reputation, spokesperson for the hotel association Abreca, Alex Fratini, assured these shocking sights are not common in Benidorm.
"The police usually come very quickly, within minutes, and they are constantly watching," he said, adding: "It has not happened for years, but it has happened and we don't condone it because it gives Benidorm a very bad and destructive image."
He believes that "rare" incidents are because of the attitude of many, in particular British, holidaymakers.
"We make it easy for them to come and have a good time here, and some get nasty, sometimes, many groups get together and mix from different places and behave better because they see the behaviour of people from other countries. But some of these groups of English people are complicated to control, at some hours they seem to think that there are no laws here," said the Abreca spokesman.
