ARCHIVED - Alicante Tourist Board attends biggest cruise fair in Miami to attract new shipping companies
Tourism representatives from Alicante are amongst 500 exhibitors at the Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, April 25 to 28
Alicante City & Beach Tourist Board is attending this week's Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, the most important cruise fair in the world, to try to attract shipping companies to Alicante as a base port.
The fair is being held from April 25 to 28, bringing together more than 500 exhibitors from 100 countries.
Deputy Mayor and head of the tourist board, Mari Carmen Sánchez, explained that the revitalisation of Santa Bárbara Castle launched at the end of last year together with MSC Cruises' commitment to Alicante as a home port with 12 departures this summer "opens up opportunities for us at this fair".
"Alicante is also an attractive cultural, gastronomic, commercial and leisure destination. We are looking forward to working together with the Port Authority, Alicante Costa Blanca Tourist Board and the Alicante Cruise Tourism Association to promote our city to shipping companies and tour operators," she added, stressing that "the Miami Seatrade Cruise Global is the world's largest showcase for the cruise segment".
Representatives have already met with leading shipping companies such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival Corporation or Disney Cruise Line, amongst others, and over the next two days will attend breakfast meetings with other shipping companies organised by the Spanish Tourism Office in Miami, the body in charge of the cruise product in the US market.
