April 17 to 26 Red prawn festival in Águilas!
A celebration in Águilas of one of the most highly prized delicacies to come from the Mediterranean
One of the most delicious events of the year returns to Águilas between 17th and 26th April with the holding of Red Prawn Week, a celebration of one of the most highly prized delicacies to arrive fresh on the plates of local restaurants from the Mediterranean!
The restaurants taking part in this edition are Barra6, Casa Bartolo, Cuatro Calas, El Tiburón, El Varadero, Ginés, La Chimenea, La Veleta, Makoki, María Castaña Vinos & Amigos, Pecado and Zoco del Mar, each of them offering unique dishes featuring the culinary delight that is the locally caught red prawn.
A warning, though: the red prawns of Águilas are not only highly prized, they are also highly priced, and for this reason the menus are not exactly in the “cheap and cheerful” price range! Full details will become available shortly in the dossier for the event to be published on www.hosteaguilas.com.
This year’s 10th edition of the festival, which has proved a great success among both locals and visitors to the south-west of the Region of Murcia in recent years, also includes a special event on Friday 24th April in which participants can follow a catch of red prawns from the moment they are captured to the sea to the time they are served to diners.
This includes a guided visit to the market in the fishing port of Águilas and the auction of freshly-caught produce in the company of the chef “El Poli”, the purchase of fresh prawns and a tasting alongside the sea in Restaurante Punta Negra accompanied by Bienhablao wines.
The visit begins at 17.30 in the port and registration coasts 12 euros per person, including the tasting and the wine, with bookings to become available shortly through the regional tourist board and by email to info@hosteaguilas.com.
For more local events, news and visiting information, contact the tourist office of Águilas (telephone 968 493285) or go to the home page of Águilas Today.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
