ARCHIVED - Almost 1,000 rescued animals released back to the wild in El Valle
The government has invested 67,000 euros in the El Valle Wildlife Recovery Centre

Under the Protected Fauna Recovery Programme in the Region of Murcia, almost 1,000 animals were rehabilitated at the El Valle Wildlife Recovery Centre in 2022 before being released back into their natural habitat.
To facilitate this vital nature work, the regional government has invested 67,000 in the sanctuary so that it can expand its premises to house more injured wildlife in the future.
Last year, the team at El Valle rescued 3,081 injured animals, 971 of which have since been released back into the wild. In addition, 631 endangered species were taken in while 404 game animals entered the shelter. Sadly, not all of these animals pulled through, but those that didn’t make it still play a big part in the understanding of the main threats to species conservation through necropsies.

However, sometimes the animals rescued by the shelter make a full recovery but are unable to be released back into the wild. Once they are fit and healthy and don’t show signs of captivity stress, these animals are given a home for life at the El Valle Wildlife Recovery Centre where "they are the perfect candidates to carry out environmental education activities," the councillor added.
