El Xato restaurant in La Nucia, Alicante province, has made the top 5 best restaurants in the world

An Alicante restaurant has been rated the fifth best eatery in the world according to Tripadvisor.

The platform gives Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn shining reviews for fine dining from travellers around the world. 

And the Michelin star restaurant El Xato in La Nucia, less than 10km from Benidorm, has made it onto the coveted list of the very best dining establishments on the planet, according to reviews from the public.

The prestigious seal of approval is yet another accolade for head chef, Cristina Figueira, and the restaurant itself, which was recognised by Spain's Repsol Guide in 2021. In 2019 it was awarded the Michelin star for "contemporary Mediterranean cuisine and the quality of El Xato's wine cellar".

"We have been working, learning and growing since 1915, generation after generation of the Cano family, we have lived and enjoyed gastronomy, hotel service and catering for events," states the restaurant on its official website.

El Xato stands out on the Tripadvisor platform for its history, with more than 100 years of tradition, for its dishes that mix contemporary and Mediterranean food, and for the service.

One reviewer wrote: "An absolutely wonderful gem with sublime food and exceptional service."

"Fantastic food, good wine, wonderful service. The food was beautiful and well thought out in presentation. Each dish showcased the ingredients brilliantly and every bite was delicious," gushed another.

The restaurant currently offers two menus. The 'Temptations' set menu, priced at 78 euros without wines and 117 euros with pairing, consists of six appetizers, four starters, a main course and a dessert.

Meanwhile, the other 'Centenario' menu costs 95 euros without pairings, and 147 euros with wine. This option consists of six appetizers, six starters, one fish, one meat and, for those with a sweet tooth, a refreshing pre-dessert and a dessert.
