Alicante unveils modernised beach sports area at Playa San Juan
Leisure and sports facilities have been replaced and modernised at the capital city's largest beach on the Costa Blanca
Alicante City Council has renovated and modernised its popular sand sports area on San Juan beach with the installation of new equipment for physical exercise, gym, bodybuilding and athletics.
"The sand sports facilities on our beaches are extremely popular with locals who are committed to a healthy lifestyle, as well as visitors and athletes who train daily on our coastline, and they have been renovated so that we can offer first class areas for outdoor sports," explained the city council.
In recent weeks, 15-year-old equipment has been removed and replaced, and three new activity areas have been created with the installation of new ring modules, parallel arms and rotating swirls.
A 'cross systems equipment zone' has also been created with a system of horizontal bars for lifting and torso exercises. Volleyball and handball posts have also been upgraded, along with beach football goals.
And there is now a 'workout area' with pull-up bars, step equipment, an abdominal bench, parallel bars, trellises and ladders.
"These structures have been assembled on a special anchoring kit for beaches, and the components have undergone a galvanisation treatment and paint coating to guarantee the improvements of our beach sports areas which are used by thousands of people on a daily basis," added Alicante city's Department of Sports.
