ARCHIVED - Alicante is fifth most sought-after destination amongst luxury home buyers; Malaga is first
Alicante province accounts for 8 per cent of high-end house searches made by foreigners looking for homes in Spain
Whilst Alicante is hugely popular with holidaymakers, it's also a leading destination amongst foreigners searching for second homes worth more than €1 million, according to a study by online real estate platform Idealista.
In fact, Alicante is the fifth most sought after province in Spain, accounting for eight per cent of all online luxury property searches so far this year.
Whilst the British buy more properties as a whole in the province, when it comes to overall sales/searches of high-end properties worth €1 million or more, they represent 11 per cent, behind the Dutch, who dominate the market with 15 per cent and the Germans (14 per cent).
Ten per cent of Alicante luxury home hunters are French, and 6 per cent Swedish.
Leading the ranking of the 10 most popular provinces for top-end property buyers is Malaga, with 16 per cent of all searches, predominantly by the British (12 per cent).
Valencia ranks ninth most attractive province in Spain amongst international buyers, with 2 per cent of searches made, specifically from France (13 per cent), America (12 per), the UK (11 per cent), Germany (10 per cent) and the Netherlands (8 per cent).
