ARCHIVED - Alicante incidence rate rises to 3,450: Valencia Covid update January 21
7,027 new infections have been reported in Alicante province in the last 24 hours
The upward trajectory of Covid cases continues in the Valencia region with a further 22,063 cases reported in the latest update from the Ministry of Health, 7,027 of which are in Alicante province where the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has risen to 3,450 cases per 100,000 people.
However, there has been a slow down of new positives noted in the Orihuela, San Juan and Elda health departments where infections have dropped slightly for the first time since the start of the sixth wave of the pandemic.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 22,063 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, down from 26,764 on Thursday January 20, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 935,390.
By province: 2,202 have been recorded in Castellón (114,909 in total); 7,027 in Alicante (338,534); and 12,834 in Valencia (481,945).
There are still two unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 181,094 active cases, which represent 19.13% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,749 people admitted to hospital with Covid (29 more than on Thursday), 183 of them in ICU (seven less): 243 in the province of Castellón, 21 in ICU; 585 in the province of Alicante, 62 of them in ICU; and 921 in the province of Valencia, 100 in ICU.
6,085 patients have overcome the virus since the last update, meaning 757,352 people have recovered from the disease since the start of the pandemic.
By provinces, the discharges are distributed as follows: 86,124 in Castellón; 270,086 in Alicante; and 401,086 in Valencia. The total of unassigned registrations remains at 56.
Fatalities
A further 17 Covid-related deaths have been reported since Thursday's update, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 8,385: 958 in the province of Castellón, 3,216 in Alicante and 4,211 in Valencia.
The deceased, who died within the last seven days, are 10 men, aged between 54 and 91, and seven women between 59 and 95-years-old.
Vaccination data
There has been no update on vaccinations, but as of Friday January 14, 4,265,413 people had been double-jabbed or had received the Janssen single dose, and a total of 10,042,110 doses of vaccine had been administered since the beginning of the pandemic.
