Monday December 5 is International Volunteer Day of Economic and Social Development 2022, and the Town Hall in Alhama de Murcia has decided to get stuck in. The Department of Social Welfare is organising a day of social participation this Sunday November 27 starting from 10am in the Plaza de la Constitución in Alhama.

During that morning of November 27, the different associations of the municipality’s volunteer sector will hold workshops, games, music and dances, among many other activities, to raise awareness of the work they do.

At the same time, the social promotion group El Candil has also prepared a series of events for this day, aimed at children and families, including an information desk where people can go to learn about social promotion activities, plus a themed photobooth, a family treasure hunt, co-educational tents, badge and bookmark workshops and a “green” corner.

XIII Training course for volunteers

The Social Welfare Department is organising the 13th training course for volunteers, aimed at training them in the raising of economic resources and other sources of funding and good practices in associative communication, given by the El Candil collective for social promotion.

Priority will be given to people involved in volunteering and municipal associations, although the general public can register to take part.

One of the contents of the course is the financing of these groups’ volunteer projects, activities and services. Institutions are constantly faced with the need to generate, seek or attract new resources, which is why this training aims to find the most appropriate proposals by providing a theoretical and practical basis that includes the skills, tools and resources necessary to improve this action.

Not only this, but the aim is also for organisations to learn how to improve their projection and relationship with the environment in the dissemination of their actions and projects, in order to create exchanges that meet the objectives of the association, as well as those of the beneficiaries of their activities, thus allowing the population to become aware of the action of the organisations in the municipality.

This training course will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from January 16 to February 8, 2023, from 6pm to 8pm.

Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.

The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.

The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.

The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
