ARCHIVED - 952 new cases as pressure on hospitals continues: Valencia Covid update November 26
Outbreak with 31 associated cases reported on the Costa Blanca
The surge in new daily cases over recent weeks continues with a further 952 new infections and one death reported by the Ministry of Health.
A 54-year-old has died of the virus within the last seven days, and an outbreak with 31 cases of educational origin has been confirmed in Benicàssim.
Meanwhile, there are 100 more Covid patients being treated in hospitals across the region compared to the start of the week as Valencia's Public Prosecutor's Office today endorsed the government's plan to implement the EU Digital Covid Passport in certain leisure and hospitality venues.
The final decision is now in the hands of the Superior Court of Justice.
Whilst the President of Valencia, Ximo Puig, has ruled out other restrictions for the moment, he has admitted if the situation continues to worsen, this could change.
And the fact the 14-day cumulative incident rate has reached 165.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants will undoubtedly be cause for concern.
New cases
A further 952 new cases have been reported over the weekend, down from 1,762 on Monday November 22, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 528,553 people. By province: 175 in Castellón (57,134 in total); 308 in Alicante (193,179) and 469 in Valencia (278,239).
Recoveries
488 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 523,239 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 56,188 in Castellón; 191,194 in Alicante; and 275,801 in Valencia. The total number of unassigned discharges remains at 56.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 389 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, 100 more than on Monday, 68 of whom are being treated in ICUs up from 55): 83 in the province of Castellón, 10 in ICU; 131 in the province of Alicante, 29 in the ICU; and 175 in the province of Valencia, 29 of them in the ICU.
Fatalities
There has been one reported deaths which occurred in the last seven days, aged 54. This means the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic stands at 7,913: 871 of these deaths have been recorded in Castellón; 3,044 in Alicante; and 3,998 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
A total of 4,227,203 people have received one dose of vaccine, and 4,162,465 people are now fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 8,842 active cases, which represents 1.64% of the total positives.
Outbreaks
Since the last update there has been one reported outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases: in Benicàssim: 31 cases of educational origin.
