ARCHIVED - 72-year-old gored to death at bull run event in the Valencia Region, the 9th fatality this year
The pensioner was fatally wounded at a bullfighting arena in Castellón

The ancient tradition of bullfighting in Spain continues to be shrouded in controversy, with a degrading dwarf event recently cancelled in Madrid and a semi-nude protestor breaking into a ring in Murcia last month.
And now, the 'sport' has claimed a ninth life in 10 months as 2022 shapes up to be a tragic year for bullfighting in the Valencia Community. A 72-year-old man from Villarreal was fatally gored by a bull during the Roser festivities in Almassora, Castellón on Wednesday afternoon, October 5.
According to a statement issued by Almassora Town Council, the elderly victim was caught by the bull in Calle Mare de Déu de la Llum street and thrown against the bars.
Bullfighting collaborators and the local police took the critically injured man to the bullring infirmary, and at the request of the surgeon, he was taken by ambulance to the General Hospital of Castellón and admitted to ICU. Sadly, he died minutes later.
Almassora council has suspended all the events planned for Thursday evening (October 6) and a minute's silence was held at 12 noon.
In July, three people died in just 24 hours during bullfighting festivities in Meliana, Picassent and Pedreguer. In August, an 18-year-old was gored by a bull in Soneja and a 24-year-old died in Vallada.
'Bous al carrer' celebrations in the region also claimed the life of a woman, 73, and an 80 year old man, along with a 71-year-old man in Almedíjar, Castellón this summer.
