ARCHIVED - 71 members of Swedish drug trafficking group arrested in Alicante and Málaga
The criminal group had properties in Alicante, Granada and Málaga

Officers from the Guardia Civil, the Policía Nacional and the Swedish police force have arrested 71 people in total, including criminals in Torrevieja (Alicante) and Marbella (Málaga).
The detainees were members of an international drug trafficking group who transported drugs from Spain and then distributed the narcotics in Swedish cities such as Estocolmo and Gotemburgo.
In addition, the violent group is thought to cause around 50 deaths per year, which are mainly debt related.

The investigation began when Swedish authorities contacted Spanish police to alert them that several members of the group were travelling to the country regularly to purchase narcotics, using a removals company as cover.
The removals and transport company was being used to smuggle the drugs out of Spain, but officers in Torrevieja and San Pedro de Alcántara (Málaga) managed to seize several shipments.

After investigating further, the two legal owners of the company were arrested in Sweden, leading to the arrest of the son and nephew of the first two men in Spain, who were preparing a shipment of 265 kilos of hashish at the time.
A third person, from whom 28,000 euros were seized, was also arrested in Spain and 12 properties in the provinces of Alicante, Ávila, Granada and Málaga have been blocked.

Another member of group, one of the most notorious criminals in Europe, was detained in Madrid for several charges including conspiracy to commit homicide, extorsion, kidnapping and drug trafficking.
The authorities have also determined that this organization was responsible for the arrival of several shipments of hashish, smuggled into Spain from Morocco using leisure boats.
