30 boozed-up Brits cause chaos on flight to Alicante
The pilot of the Ryanair flight requested police presence when the plane touched down in Alicante-Elche Airport
Yet more antics from Brits behaving badly have lit up social media this week after a massive fight broke out on a Ryanair flight from Bristol to Alicante on Saturday June 24. According to official statements, the brawl involved around 30 inebriated UK holidaymakers who spilled into the narrow aisles, forcing the pilot to radio ahead to Alicante-Elche Airport and request police back-up when the plane touched down.
The commotion was initially flagged by Air Traffic Controllers on Twitter, whose account is dedicated to reporting changes to flights and aircraft incidents: “Flight from the UK arriving in #Alicante requests police presence upon arrival due to problems with around thirty drunk passengers. It seems that there has been a fight on board. Priority, cut manoeuvres where possible and coordinate the presence of the police. We reiterate our support for the crews and passengers who have to suffer these situations.”
Officers were waiting for the rowdy Brits on the tarmac and most saw their holiday significantly delayed as they were hauled in for questioning about the unfortunate incident.
So-called ‘silly season’ is upon us and flight disruptions will continue to increase as the summer goes on. A couple of months ago, a video went viral of another flight to Alicante which showed half the plane breaking into a tuneless rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’.
Although the original poster said he’d welcome the distraction since he’s a nervous flyer most of the other passengers looked none too impressed, with many describing the journey as their “idea of a nightmare.”
