An 11-month-old baby girl escaped a dangerous breed dog attack with a bite wound to the leg after being set upon on a bar terrace in Xàtiva, Valencia.

The little girl's father and grandfather were also injured trying the pull the dog off the child.

The horrifying incident happened at around 10.15am on Sunday July 17 as the family were sitting outside an establishment in the town.

According to the National Police, the dog - a bull terrier breed classified as dangerous - was with its owner on the same terrace when it managed to get free and lunge at the baby, biting her leg.

The baby suffered non-serious injuries and was admitted to the Hospital La Fe de València.

The child's father and grandfather were also treated for wounds to their hands.

An investigation into the attack has been opened by the National Police.
