ARCHIVED - Elderly man drowns at Alfaz del Pi beach on the Costa Blanca
The pensioner was pulled unconscious from the sea in the Marina Baixa comarca, Alicante province.
An 88-year-old man drowned while swimming at Racó de El Albir beach on Sunday, May 30.
At around 10.30am, the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) received a call reporting that an unconscious man had been pulled out of the sea.
A SAMU ambulance was sent straight to the scene, but the medical team could only confirm the elderly victim's death.
The drowning is the third on the Costa Blanca this month, after a 60-year-old German man lost his life in the sea at l'Ampolla beach in Moraira, part of the Teulada municipality on Wednesday, May 26.
A week earlier, on May 18, a 75-year-old man drowned at Racó del Conill cove in nearby Villajoyosa (La Vila Joiosa in Valencian).
