Work will finally begin to demolish the Lagomar building in October
It is hoped that by the new year, the ugly ‘ghost building’ will finally be gone, 50 years after construction on it was stalled
The demolition work on the structure of the Lagomar building, located in La Manga del Mar Menor and abandoned since the 1970s, will finally begin in October 2023 and will have a maximum execution period of three months, so the work is expected to finish in January 2024.
This was confirmed this Thursday September 28 by San Javier Town Council after the meeting held with representatives of the company Urcotex Inmobiliaria, which has been chosen to carry out the 1-million-euro demolition work on the building.
The Lagomar ‘ghost building’, has been an undeveloped eyesore in La Manga for half a century now, and plans to demolish it have been made and unmade countless times.
A recent report which stated that the building was structurally unsound and could collapse at any moment has forced proceedings to move ahead quickly.
It is hoped that, if the demolition actually happens this time and the building is taken apart piece by piece over the next three months, this area of San Javier and La Manga del Mar Menor will regain some of its tourist and real estate charm and value, especially for the Doblemar hotel next door.
