Work begins on the panoramic lift in Puerto de Mazarrón
The lift is expected to be a major step forward in accessibility and urban renewal in the Port
Today, Monday February 10, marks the official start of construction on the long-awaited panoramic lift in the Peñasco area of Puerto de Mazarrón.
This ambitious project, championed by Mayor Ginés Campillo as part of his broader vision for modernising the municipality, will connect Avenida Narciso Yepes with Calle Viriato. The lift aims to improve accessibility and enhance the urban landscape of the area.
Local residents have long called for a solution to the difficulties of accessing the beach from this elevated part of town, and now with the construction of this lift, access will be greatly improved, particularly for the elderly and people with reduced mobility.
Mayor Campillo expressed his satisfaction at the commencement of the project, emphasising that it represents a firm commitment to the development of the municipality.
“Today we are taking another step forward in the transformation of Puerto de Mazarrón,” he said. “This lift will be a symbol of modernisation and accessibility, and represents our desire to improve the quality of life of our citizens.”
He also highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve the coastal area’s infrastructure and overall appeal.
Construction is expected to take approximately six months to complete. During this period, workers will carry out excavation, lay foundations and install the lift itself. Designed with glass walls, the panoramic lift will offer users breathtaking views of the surroundings, making it not only a practical addition but also an attractive feature for both tourists and residents.
This project forms part of the Mazarrón Urbano Plan, a comprehensive modernisation programme aimed at enhancing the town’s infrastructure.
Other planned improvements include pavement renovations, upgraded street lighting, the beautification of landscaped areas and optimised access points.
