ARCHIVED - Wildfire destroys hectares of Montgo natural park in Javea
Flames razed more than eight hectares of forest in the Barranc del Migdia area of the Marina Alta park in Alicante province
A wildfire has destroyed more than eight hectares of forest in the Barranc del Migdia area of Montgó natural park in Javea.
The blaze, fuelled by strong winds, broke out at around 12.30pm on Monday January, and took more than five hours to bring under control, hampered by the fact the area was inaccessible by land and firefighter could only get to it by air.

The fire originated in a pine forest and was "advancing strongly" in the first two hours, according to Alicante Provincial Fire Brigade, but was "stabilised" by 4.30pm, having razed a significant section of land.
By 5.40pm, the flames were finally brought under control.
Initially, the 112 Emergency services mobilised two units of forest firefighters, two fire engines, an environmental officer and two aerial resources.
However, once the size of the fire had been verified, a further three helicopters and a plane, along with nine firefighting units, were dispatched from Valencia at 1.15pm and the Fire Consortium declared a 'Situation 1' due to the proximity of houses to the fire.
Fortunately it was not necessary to carry out any any evacuations, and the aerial reinforcements were stood down at around 4.30pm.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear, but "strong gusts of wind" have been attributed to the rapid spread of destructive flames.
Montgó was the scene of a house fire on Saturday January 8, which broke out at a villa in the Les Galeretes area of the natural park, a section which lies in the Denia municipality.
Firefighters were forced to act quickly amid fears the flames could spread to nearby properties and vegetation.
