Which Sundays and public holidays will shops be open in the Region of Murcia in 2027?
The regional government has approved 16 dates for shops and supermarkets to open, including several Sundays in the run-up to Christmas

Shops and supermarkets across the Region of Murcia will be allowed to open on 16 Sundays and public holidays in 2027. The Regional Trade Advisory Council has approved the dates, with December having the most authorised opening days. Six of the 16 dates fall in the final month of the year, including several Sundays in the run-up to Christmas.
All 16 authorised shopping dates for 2027
The dates cover the whole year, from the first Sunday in January to December 26.
January: Sunday January 3 and Sunday January 10
March: Friday March 19 and Thursday March 25
June: Wednesday June 9 and Sunday June 27
October: Tuesday October 12
November: Monday November 1, Sunday November 21 and Sunday November 28
December: Sunday December 5, Monday December 6, Wednesday December 8, Sunday December 12, Sunday December 19 and Sunday December 26
The list includes several public holidays that could be useful for planning shopping trips, including Spain's National Day on October 12 and the December holidays around Constitution Day and the Immaculate Conception.
December is particularly busy, with six authorised opening days falling during the Christmas shopping period. November also has three dates, while January, March and June each have two.
Who decides when shops can open?
The calendar was agreed on Thursday, October 8, by the Regional Trade Advisory Council, a consultative body that brings together representatives from the regional government, businesses, trade unions and consumer organisations.
Its members include business groups representing Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca, the region's chambers of commerce, supermarket associations and consumer organisations. Trade unions and the regional federation of municipalities also have a say in the process. The council's decision was backed by a broad majority.
It's worth remembering that these are dates that shops are permitted to open, rather than days when every retailer must trade. If you're planning a shopping trip around one of them, check your local supermarket or shop's opening hours before setting off.
