Welsh holidaymaker found dead in Benidorm hotel room
The 21-year-old was on vacation in Alicante with friends
A young tourist from Wales was found dead in his hotel room in the popular resort of Benidorm, an inquest at Pontypridd Coroners' Court on Monday July 29 heard.
The lifeless body of 21-year-old Harvey Dominy from Merthyr Tydfil was discovered by his distraught friends on July 16.
It’s understood that the group headed out on the town at around 7pm on the night in question but when his pals returned to the hotel several hours late, they found Harvey on the floor of his room. Harvey’s friends couldn’t find a pulse and called the emergency services, who pronounced the Briton dead.
An initial post-mortem puts his time of death at between 9pm and 10.30pm, but the young man’s cause of death has yet to be established and the investigation continues.
Assistant Coroner Kerrie Burge has adjourned the inquest, awaiting further details from the Spanish authorities.
The tragedy has left Harvey’s friends and family devastated, with tributes pouring in. Over the weekend, they released blue balloons near his home at Meadow Close, Cae Penderyn, while playing ‘Forever Young’ in a touching memorial.
Mckenzy Dominy, his brother, spoke of “Merthyr’s golden boy, known and cherished by all.”
In a statement he said: “My brother Harvey's radiant smile was his trademark, a beacon of joy that never dimmed despite life’s challenges.
“From his first night, when doctors doubted he’d survive his first 24 hours, to his very last day, Harvey faced each hurdle with unwavering courage and a grin that could light up all of Merthyr.
“His passing leaves a void deeper than words can express. We’ve lost more than a brother, son, nephew, or grandson – we’ve lost our guiding light, our heart.
“Harvey lived every moment to its fullest, and in his memory, we’ll continue to fight and embrace life, just as he did.”
