ARCHIVED - Weather warning: torrential floods in San Miguel de Salinas
Rainfall of more than 90 litres/m2 closes roads and businesses in the Vega Baja area
Heavy downpours of more than 90 litres of rainfall per square metre have forced road closures in several towns in the Vega Baja region of Alicante today, with San Miguel de Salinas particularly hard hit.
According to meteorologists at the Torrevieja weather centre, 96 litres/m2 of rain fell in the town San Miguel de Salinas since this morning. Businesses a ground floor homes have been flooded, while scenes of veritable rivers running through the streets and washing away tables and chairs in the bars have been shared on social media.

Nearby Los Montesinos saw 93 litres/m2 of rainfall, leading to the closure of at least five sections of the CV-945, CV-940, CV-943 and CV-945 roads. In addition, authorities have advised people to avoid using any form of transport unless it is an emergency, and to stay in their homes until the floodwaters have passed.
