WATCH: Three injured when disgruntled farmers storm government offices in western Spain
Castilla y León farmers staged a 4-hour protest over bovine tuberculosis crisis measures

An agricultural worker and two police officers were injured in the Castilla y León city of Salamanca on Monday June 5 when livestock protestors tried to storm the local government offices during a four-hour protest against the new bovine tuberculosis safety measures.
A 49-year-old farmer was transferred to the Salamanca Hospital with a gash to the head which he claims to have received at the hands of the police, while another protestor was arrested for injuring two officers with a baton.
Tensions are running high in the province since the local government imposed restrictions on the movement of cattle due to a TB outbreak. However, the Ministry of Agriculture managed by VOX, initially refused to comply with the state order:
"Any decision that we make so that this ministerial order is no longer in force will be positive for Castilla y León, it will be positive for the livestock sector," a spokesperson declared.
The situation came to a head outside the government buildings at lunchtime on Monday when representatives of the sector tried to break into an official meeting, scenes that are reminiscent of the storming of the Development Centre building in Lorca last year, when pig farmers revolted against proposed regulations to restrict the building of new livestock farms in the municipality.

The protestors were bocked by police officers, but still more demonstrators pelted the doors and windows with eggs and wooden sticks.
The disgruntled farmers have asked for more flexibility with the TB measures amid rising costs for the sector, and have also called for the immediate “dismissal of the head of Animal Health of Salamanca, the head of Animal Health of Castilla y León and the general director of Health of the Ministry".
