Wanted British killer arrested in Alicante
The fugitive has been hiding out in Torrevieja since going on the run in 2015
Alicante National Police have arrested a British man wanted in relation to the murder of his partner back in 1990. The fugitive skipped bail in 2015 and disappeared for years before resurfacing in the Costa Blanca city of Torrevieja last month.
A Search and Arrest Warrant for Extradition had been issued by Interpol but the Briton managed to stay under the radar by using different identities. In addition, he had no official address in Spain, choosing instead to stay with multiple elderly women suffering from mental health difficulties and substance abuse problems.
The investigation began in May when investigators in the UK informed the Spanish authorities they believed the fugitive could be hiding out in Torrevieja at the home of his current partner, a British woman. They described the man as being “potentially dangerous” since two people he had been living with 33 years ago died under suspicious circumstances.
The British authorities also provided two licence plate numbers of vehicles thought to be in use by the suspect, but both cars were discovered in a state of abandonment. Nevertheless, officers managed to track the man to an urbanisation in Torrevieja and made a positive ID, despite the fact that he was using false residency and identity documents.
After extensive surveillance of the property owned by a UK expat, Spanish police intercepted the fugitive leaving the house on November 30. He is currently awaiting extradition to Britain where he will be tried for murder.
