Volunteers clear 95 kilos of rubbish from Santiago de la Ribera and Cartagena
Divers collected mostly plastics and cigarette butts from the seabed and the beaches

Volunteers have pulled 95 kilos of waste from the seabed and beaches of Cartagena and Santiago de la Ribera as part of the 12th Great International Clean-up of the Seabed and Beaches.
According to a statement from the Marine Watchers Network on Saturday October 24, two operations were carried out in the Region of Murcia, with plastics, cigarette butts and drifting buoys making up most of what was collected.
In Santiago de la Ribera, the diving clubs Mindfulness Diving and Mares Libres removed 74 kilos of waste. The day came after a night of heavy rain, which had left plenty of cigarette butts on the sand along with several buoys that had been washed out of place.
Cristalsub took 21 kilos from both the seabed and the beach at Fatares in Cartagena, where divers found the water relatively clean and most of the rubbish had ended up on land.
Both operations were part of the “1m2 Against Litter” campaign, promoted by the LIBERA Project, a joint initiative between SEO/BirdLife and Ecoembes.
Across Spain the campaign finished with more than 8.3 tonnes of waste removed from coasts, ports, rivers and lagoons.
