ARCHIVED - Valencian father takes legal action over vaccinations in schools
The vaccination of children aged between 5 and 11 has begun in Alicante and the rest of Valencia
A father based in the Valencian Community, who is a lawyer by profession, has lodged an appeal with the Superior High Court of Justice against the decision of the regional government to vaccinate children between the ages of 5 and 11 in schools. He has also slammed the authorities for giving parents just one day to authorise the immunisations of their children, a period which he considers “inappropriate” and “disproportionate” to the gravity of the situation.
Having spent 30 days in ICU suffering from Covid himself, the concerned father has revealed that he is in no way opposed to the immunisation campaign; however, he believes that a school is no place to inoculate children, given that it lacks the privacy and security of health centres. In addition, Mr Curro Nicolau has argued against the possible “stigmatisation” of children whose parents decide against the jab, since “everyone will know who is absent at the time of vaccination.”
While Mr Nicolau doesn’t believe the local government will abandon its plan to vaccinate minors in schools, he has nonetheless lodged a series of complaints: lack of accreditation of health security measures before the vaccination system planned in educational centres; risks to the mental health of minors and parents; violation of data protection regulations; and violation of the regulations on the protection of minors and children.
In this first phase of the campaign, the health authorities plan to inoculate all students from fourth to sixth grade of Primary between now and December 22, with some 150,000 doses set to be administered.
