ARCHIVED - Two women injured after a palm tree falls on them in Alicante
The pensioners have been transferred to Alicante hospital with leg, abdomen and neck injuries
Two women aged 63 and 65 were injured on Monday in Alicante city after a palm tree fell on them.
The incident occurred at around 4.20pm in Benejúzar street in Alicante on Monday March 14. After emergency services were alerted to the accident, a Basic Life Support unit was despatched to the scene.
The medical team assisted the two injured women: the 63-year-old with abdominal contusion and neck pains and the 65-year-old with a contusion in one leg.
Alicante province has been on yellow alert of strong winds this week as Storm Celia blows through Spain, knocking down palm trees and causing localised power cuts.
Both were taken to the Hospital General Universitario de Alicante in an ambulance and are in a stable condition.
