ARCHIVED - Two new off-roaders added to the Orihuela police car fleet
The Policía Local in the Vega Baja area of Alicante now have two new fully equipped cars in circulation
The department of Citizen Security in Orihuela has officially presented two new all-terrain vehicles to the Policía Local this Wednesday (July 14).
These two new cars, which are Ford Rangers, are fully equipped and fully comply with the regulations and specifications relating to official police vehicles and, in addition, they also include extra features to help the officers in specific situations.
A winch for dragging, lifting or moving objects is one of the features and the cars also have an elevated water intake, or ‘snorkel’ system, to help them drive through water during flooding emergencies.
The head of the Citizen Security department has stated that these specific vehicles were chosen because of their ability to drive off-road, in rural or difficult-to-access areas, as well as handling conditions in which other vehicles would struggle to cope.
He also mentioned that these new cars would greatly improve the services which can be provided by the police force in emergency situations, such as flooding, which is becoming an increasingly common occurence on the eastern coast of Spain.
From July 14, these two off-road cars will be patrolling Orihuela, Orihuela Costa and the surrounding areas.
The contract for the vehicles has a total cost of 110,436 euros and a duration of four years.
