Two Algerians arrested for rape of British tourist near Benidorm
The men offered to drive the woman to her hotel in Villajoyosa in exchange for cash
A young British woman was allegedly raped by two men she offered to pay for a lift back to her hotel in Villajoyosa after a night out in Benidorm, which is just 15 kilometres away. The victim claims she was attacked after falling asleep in the back of their car.
The assault occurred during the early hours of August 25 when the UK national was waiting for a taxi in central Benidorm. Investigators believe this is when the two men, both Algerian and aged 39 and 44, pulled up and the woman offered them 15 euros to drive her back to her hotel.
A spokesperson for the Guardia Civil filled in the details: “The holidaymaker was waiting for a taxi in Benidorm to take her back to her hotel after going out partying and the suspects offered to take her in return for money.“She had just left a nightspot which had been about to close in a popular going-out area frequented by tourists in Benidorm.
“After agreeing to travel with them and paying the cash, she fell asleep which is when both suspects allegedly took advantage of the situation to take her to one of their homes and sexually abuse her.”
Investigators added that the woman fled into the street after she regained consciousness and flagged down a police officer to report the rape.
The alleged attackers were quickly apprehended and it was discovered that one of the men was wanted in connection with a violent robbery committed in Villajoyosa just two days before.While the attack took place six weeks ago, police have only revealed the details this week after a court ruled to remand the suspects in custody pending further investigation.
