Trouble for Toblerone: Spain issues a health warning for this popular chocolate treat
Health authorities in Spain have warned customers about several dangerous labelling mistakes

The iconic triangular Toblerone bars are a common sight in every airport duty free and are no doubt at the moment filling Christmas stockings across the country. But the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has warned shoppers to check the labels very carefully, as several potentially dangerous omissions have been noticed.
An alert was raised on Thursday December 7 for anyone allergic or intolerant to milk, almonds, soy or eggs, since the popular chocolate treats contain large amounts of all of these ingredients, but the company has, incredibly, neglected to state this on the wrapper.
Aesan has detailed in a statement that these undeclared ingredients are found in a milk chocolate product with nougat (10%), honey and almonds from the Toblerone brand, weighing 100 grams and with barcode number 7614500010013.
The faulty batches have the following expiration dates: 12/8/2024, 12/15/2024, 12/25/2024, 12/26/2024, 01/07/2025 and 01/24/2025.
According to the authorities, the dodgy chocolate is available for sale in every region of Spain aside from La Rioja, Ceuta and Melilla, but of course, especially given the time of year, there’s no guarantee they haven’t travelled further afield.
As a precautionary measure, Aesan has recommended people who are allergic or intolerant to the mentioned ingredients refrain from consuming this product, but the Toblerone bars pose no risk to the rest of the population.
