Tragedy in Murcia: Farmer found dead after being swept away by floodwaters
Fifty-year-old man discovered near Ramonete after torrential rains cause sudden flooding

A 50-year-old man from the Ermita de Ramonete area in Lorca, Murcia, was found dead after being swept away by floodwaters on Sunday March 2. The incident occurred following intense rainfall that led to the sudden swelling of the Ramonete stream.
Emergency services, including local police, firefighters and the Guardia Civil, launched an immediate search operation. His vehicle was located on Sunday, but he was not inside. Tragically, his body was later discovered at the mouth of the stream where it meets the coast.
The man, a shepherd by profession, was reportedly attempting to cross the swollen stream in his van when the water levels rose suddenly, catching him off guard.
The heavy rains, part of a broader storm system affecting the Region, have caused significant disruptions across Murcia. Torrential rain led to flash floods, which in some areas left roads impassable and triggered landslides. Emergency crews have been working nonstop to assist those affected by the weather.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid crossing flooded areas, as many roads are still closed and the rains continue to cause damage.
The local community is in mourning, and support services have been offered to the victim's family during this difficult time.
