Tourists delighted and disgusted in equal measure by Benidorm donkey poo lottery festival
Participants have the chance to win 1,000 euros depending on where the ass poops

There are plenty of raunchy and naughty things you can get up to in Benidorm, but most people wouldn’t expect one of them to be held at the religious Hermitage of Sanz in Benidorm.
But that is exactly where the ‘Cagà de la Burra’ fiesta has just been held for the second year running after Covid, offering curious visitors a hilarious and smelly experience of a unique Spanish celebration that revolves around watching a donkey do its business.
The ‘Cagà de la Burra’ first started in Benidorm back in 2014, when one of the members of the Sant Antoni Commission of that year, José Fuster, suggested dividing a piece of land into small numbered plots where the donkey would be located.
People in the area could then buy a raffle ticket with a number on it and whichever numbered square the donkey pooped on would be the winner.

This Sunday just gone, September 17, the donkey once again did its thing and, from noon onwards, neighbors and members of the Sant Antoni Commission were there to cheer the animal on while they crossed their fingers that its deposition would lead to a large deposit in their bank accounts.
A ticket for each of the 500 numbered squares was available to purchase for 10 euros, and the jackpot this year was 1,000 euros for the winning ticket.
All money raised go towards paying for the festivities that will be celebrated in honour of Sant Antoni this coming January.
