Tourists damage Es Baluard sculpture in Mallorca while taking a photo
One couple’s attempt at a memorable snapshot lead to an art mishap in Palma

Es Baluard Museu d'Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma, better known as Es Baluard, is a major modern and contemporary art museum in the city. Located in the historic area of Porta de Santa Catalina, it houses an extensive collection of over 800 works by artists linked to the Balearic Islands and beyond. The museum is also known for its spectacular views of Palma Bay, with iconic landmarks such as the Gothic cathedral and Bellver Castle in the background.
The sculpture involved in the incident, Júlia, is a notable piece by artist Agustí Roqué. Emergency services arrived at the scene to assist the injured tourists, who were treated for minor injuries.
Following the incident, the Palma City Council has confirmed that the Júlia sculpture will be restored. Museum officials have also issued a reminder to visitors about the importance of respecting artworks and following museum guidelines to prevent similar accidents in the future.
