ARCHIVED - Torrevieja launches new online padron application service
Registered residents in the Vega Baja town, Alicante, can now apply for a new padrón digitally

The 'empadronamiento', also known as a padrón, is vital in Spain providing official proof of address and one of the requirements for residency applications. It's also a necessity when buying a house or car, getting married and to vote in elections.
And as is the case with many administrative procedures, obtaining a padrón can be a bit of a bind, involving a trip to the Town Hall, and a second visit to pick up the signed document.
However, a complete automation of the municipal register in Torrevieja means anyone in a hurry to get an up-to-date padrón can now do so digitally.
Councillor for Census and Statistics, Inmaculada Montesinos, this week stressed the importance of the new streamlined service which she assured will "expedite the procedures for applying and obtaining this particular document", as well as "other various Register certificates".
The new service will also "considerably reduce the pressure on the Department of Census and Statistics".
Using the website torrevieja.es, citizens can now request and obtain the individual and collective certificates of the padron directly through a digital device in just minutes. The document can be requested by electronic ID, digital certificate, pin code or permanent code.
Once all the processing documents have been filled in, a communication from the Town Hall will be sent via email notifying that the padron is ready to be downloaded.
In just a week, 237 certificates have already been issued telematically through the new municipal digital census service.
The Department of Census and Statistics also has a new telephone appointment service available from 9am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday, by calling +34 607 822 861.
