If you're one of the growing number of people who can work from anywhere and you're thinking about making Spain your base, you'll be pleased to know the country has just picked up some impressive recognition.

 

Three Spanish cities have made it into the global top ten in Holafly's ranking of the world's best cities for digital nomads, and all three have a strong case for why they deserve to be there.

 

Leading the way for Spain is Valencia, which comes in at number three on the list. According to Holafy’s, the city hits a sweet spot that's hard to find elsewhere, big enough to have everything you need in terms of infrastructure, co-working spaces and connectivity, but without the overwhelming size and eye-watering costs that come with Madrid or Barcelona.

 

Throw in the Mediterranean on your doorstep and a quality of life that's hard to beat, and it's no surprise Valencia keeps popping up on lists like this.

 

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria takes eighth place, and it's been attracting remote workers in serious numbers for a few years now. The appeal centres on a stable, mild climate all year round, a relaxed pace of life, good connectivity and a growing community of digital nomads who've already made the leap. Once people discover it, many don't go back.

 

Rounding out Spain's top ten presence is Seville in tenth place. The Andalucían capital combines a fantastic climate, rich culture, a lively atmosphere and a reasonable cost of living by Western European standards, along with a solid network of co-working spaces for those who need them.

 

Spain's strong showing might be impressive, but Italy dominates the overall ranking in a way that's hard to argue with. Genoa and Bari take the top two spots, and Italy has six cities in the top ten in total, including Florence, Catania, Palermo and Rome. The only non-Spanish, non-Italian city to make the cut is Quebec City in fifth place.

 

Remote working in Spain has grown dramatically since the pandemic, with Eurostat figures showing that 12.8% of salaried workers in the country were working from home in 2023, roughly three times the figure recorded in 2019.
