Three people hospitalised with carbon monoxide poisoning in Granada town
A faulty water heater caused a build-up of lethal gas in a house in Albuñol (Granada)
Three people were rushed to hospital in the Granada municipality of Albuñol late on Tuesday December 14 with carbon monoxide poisoning from the boiler in their house.
Several neighbours alerted emergency service 112 Andalucía at around 8.30pm last night that they had found the three tenants of a house lying unconscious on the floor of the building.
On arrival the Motril Fire Brigade found that there had been a problem with their gas-powered boiler, which wasn’t burning fuel properly and generated an accumulation of carbon monoxide in the property on Calle Granada.
Ambulances from Albuñol and Castell de Ferro evacuated the three people affected to the Hospital Santa Ana de Motril. The tenants will not be able to return to their rented accommodation until the defective water heater is subjected to a technical review.
Poor combustion of gas in a boiler occurs when the boiler doesn’t burn the gas completely or properly, leading to excess carbon monoxide which is toxic to living things in high concentrations.
