ARCHIVED - Three million euros aid for Benidorm tourist accommodation sector
Up to €90,000 will available to this particular sector in the Costa Blanca resort in the Marina Baixa comarca, Alicante province.
Benidorm's tourist accommodation sector can apply for a slice of €3 million direct aid from next week to try to alleviate the devastating impact of the pandemic.
Hotels, campsites, guesthouses, hostels, apartment blocks and management companies in the hugely popular tourist destination are among the hardest hit by the lack of holidaymakers on the Costa Blanca.
It's a key sector in the resort's tourism industry, but has received virtually no financial support to date.
To "try to correct this situation", these business and establishments that, in many cases, "have not yet been able to resume their activity after 15 months due to the pandemic" can now apply for aid of between €1,000 and €90,000 from Tuesday, June 15.
"The situation is no better for the establishments that have already reopened their doors or that didn't close at all (due to a lack of tourists), and therefore it's necessary to support them all so that they can recover as soon as possible", said the local authority.
The amount given will depend on the category of accommodation, for example campsite or bed and breakfast, and number of beds, rooms or apartments.
Further information and details on how to apply are available at Benidorm Council's Electronic Headquarters and in the National Database of Subsidies.
Despite having a population of just 70,000 inhabitants - of which 2,643 are British expats - Benidorm boasts 140 hotels offering 40,000 rooms and some of the best campsites in Benidorm, with many open all year round.
