Three earthquakes in 1 hour in Murcia
The largest was the first, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale
Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN), which records seismic activity in the country, registered three earthquakes in the space of less than an hour in Ricote and Mula this Sunday evening, September 15.
The first and largest quake came at 9.59pm, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale and with its epicentre just west of Ricote.
Just one minute later, another earthquake was registered in Ricote, although of a lesser magnitude, 3 degrees.
45 minutes later, a third earthquake took place, this time in Mula, with a magnitude of 2.1.
The Emergency Coordination Centre 112 Region of Murcia received seven calls from people who claimed to have felt the quakes, including one call from Bullas, one from Campos del Rio, one from Albudeite, one from Blanca, one from Mula and two from Archena.
There is no evidence that any of the quakes caused damage to life or limb.
It comes exactly a month to the day after four earthquakes were registered in one day in the south and centre of Murcia.
In this part of Spain, minor tremors such as these are fairly frequent and sometimes there are several per week, but they rarely exceed magnitude 2 like those registered this Sunday. All the same, they are nothing to worry about.
