Thousands of cars in Spain at risk of fire due to battery fault
Around 70,000 Citroëns, DSs and Peugeots in Spain have registered this dangerous problem

The Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) in Spain has issued an urgent warning to motorists, as it’s been revealed that as many as 70,000 vehicles have registered a fault that could result in spontaneous battery fires. The problem, identified in several Citroën, DS and Peugeot models, is caused by corrosion that can lead to sudden combustion under the hood.
The Citroën cars affected are the C5 Aircross manufactured between January 20, 2020 and January 10, 2023.
The DS brand vehicles at risk are the DS7 Crossback manufactured between February 19, 2019 and 22 November 2022.
As for Peugeots, fires have been reported in the 3008 V2 manufactured between March 12, 2019 and December 12, 2022, along with the 508 V2 manufactured between July 10, 2029 and January 25, 2023.
Citroën, DS and Peugeot manufacturers are in the process of contacting all affected owners and the factory fault will, of course, be repaired for free. If your vehicle is on the list, the OCU advises motorists to contact the company’s customer service department immediately, especially if the car was bought second-hand, as these new owners may not be registered in the manufacturer’s database.
